He is the author of two novels\u00a0<em>Decent People<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>In West Mills,\u00a0<\/em>both set in the fictional town of West Mills. His work has been awarded an American Book Award and the Willie Morris Award for Southern Fiction.
