Continuing on our charted course during the 2018 year provides our MUW Foundation Board of Directors opportunities to consider The W’s bright future and reflect on 2017.

In October 2017, a special gathering for the university and its extended family took place during the annual Welty Weekend. We celebrated at the Welty Gala and heard Jeffrey Toobin share his interesting journey as an author and commentator in the media. When the Foundation Board met in November 2017, we recognized the generosity of alumna Jo-AnnVandergriff and her husband, Bill, and honored their matching gift to support nursing education by dedicating the Bill and Jo-Ann Vandergriff Plaza outside the south entrance of Martin Hall. On that same day, the Pope Dining Room was filled with alumni, friends, administrators, faculty, students and parents to thank the university’s many donors who are assisting The W students by funding endowed scholarships.

Now, as we look forward to meeting our goals for the year, I am reminded that it takes all of us working together to realize our shared vision for the university’s continued success. Alumni, friends, faculty, staff and community leaders are what make The W the special university it is for our students. I want to thank those of you who continue to support The W through your own philanthropic path(s). Your commitments are making a difference!

Our student-centered focus is the basis of The W’s vision as “a university that prepares both women and men for successful lives by providing a high-quality education in a personalized learning environment.” As stewards of funds donated to support the university and its mission, the MUW Foundation Board of Directors is mindful of this vision in all the work we do. We continue to greatly appreciate your contributions and the many opportunities they make possible for our students and faculty.

Members of the MUW Foundation Board of Directors share their time and appreciate the opportunity to serve the university and give back to the institution that has given so much to us. Learning about the direct impact of private support and seeing it make a difference firsthand only strengthens our commitment to The W, our students and our donors.

As you can see in this issue of VISIONS, great things continue to happen at The W, and even greater things are ahead for the university. With your consideration and renewed support in 2018, it is my hope that we not only will meet our goals but exceed them. Please join me in working to this end by giving to the MUW Foundation and providing learning opportunities that will change our students’ lives and support our talented faculty.
