Dear Alumni and Friends,
The last few months have been buzzing with activity for the Alumni Association. We awarded the Legacy Scholarship to Anna Kate O’Bryant (Columbus), the Southern Grace Scholarship to Lamon Stapleton (Shelby) and the Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship to Addison Holland (Laurel). All three are outstanding students and possess the characteristics necessary to be leaders in their respective fields. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for each of them. I hope in some small way our association contributes to their success.
Athletics has officially returned to The W and Alumni chapters hosted “Feed the Team” tailgate parties for the volleyball, cross country and soccer teams. I encourage you all to put on your OWLS gear and attend a game near you to show your W spirit and pride for our athletes! Our board has been working diligently on our goals and expanding our contributions to the overall success of our beloved W. In July, the board developed ways to implement the strategic plan.
In August, President-Elect Katy Pacelli welcomed and presented a gift of the Southern Grace cookbook to 14 new faculty at a luncheon hosted by us. Deborah Hodges, past president, attended Freshman Serenade and made a presentation, Traditions 101, to new students. The Membership Recruitment Committee kicked off the Back to Blue Membership Drive using a “Back to the Future” theme. The campaign resulted in 84 gifts and raised over $5,000. The flash mob winners included the Class of 2000, Blacklist Social Club and the Mid-South Chapter. If you were not able to participate in Back to Blue, I invite you to visit longblueline.muw.edu and make a contribution of any amount to become an MUWAA active member.
With W spirit and pride,
Courtney B. Murtaugh (’78)
President, MUW Alumni Association
