COLUMBUS, Miss. – Alumna Laura Quinn has been named director of human resources at Mississippi University for Women. Quinn served as interim since May 2019.
The Columbus native started her career at The W four years ago as payroll accounting assistant. In September 2018, she was promoted to human resources generalist.
“The W is a special place to me. My education and work experience as a student worker at The W helped propel my career path. I was excited to return to The W in 2016 when I began working in the Office of Human Resources,” she said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in the director’s role and I, along with the human resources staff, am committed to advancing the mission of the university.”
Karen Clay, university counsel, added, “I’ve gotten to know Laura well this past year through her work as the interim director and have been most impressed by her work ethic and commitment to our campus. I look forward to her leading the human resource function where I am confident she will continue to serve our campus workforce with transparency, integrity and purpose.”
In 1988, Quinn earned her degree from The W in business administration. While a student, she also worked in the College of Business. Shortly after graduating from the university, Quinn landed a position at Southern Living magazine.
Prior to joining The W, she served as executive director of Main Street Columbus.
Quinn and her husband, Mike, had the opportunity to live in numerous cities throughout the South for her husband’s work before returning to Columbus in 1995. Quinn worked 10 years as the office manager for her husband’s business, The Granite Guys. The couple has two adult sons.
