The Owls Athletic Department had an amazing 2019- 2020 season on the academic front, despite the athletic spring season being cut short due to COVID-19.
Ever since she was little, Hannah Brown’s curiosity has driven her to ask how things work, what drives processes and why things happen, so it’s no wonder Brown has wanted to be a doctor since she was in the second grade. Brown’s dream lives on at Mississippi University for Women, where she is a senior majoring in biology. Brown will receive a little help in taking the next step to achieving that dream after she recently was named the recipient of the Mississippi State College for Women Class of 1969 Scholarship.

The Owls Athletic Department had one of its best seasons since the return of sports programs in 2017. Men’s Soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and men’s basketball posted their best records with both soccer teams and cross country teams participating in the 2019 USCAA Fall Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. With such a successful year, The W Athletics was ranked 15th in the final standing for the 2019-20 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Director’s Cup.
When Pat Stone Meiners of Hazlehurst arrived at The W in 1955 at the age of 17, she felt immediately at home. “My dad and his five brothers were MSU grads., and The W was my only choice,” she explained. Three of her cousins later graduated from The W, following a new family tradition.
BLUE (Building Leadership Understanding & Education), the networking and mentorship event hosted annually by the MUW Alumni Association, brought more than 100 students, alumni, and faculty together.
Participants came from across the country to network and develop strategies to better engage their chapter and constituency group members, as well as develop new chapters and groups.
