COLUMBUS, Miss. – Incoming students at Mississippi University for Women will experience a new orientation.
Starting May 1 and occurring every two-weeks, The W will offer online orientation sessions to incoming students. The online orientation sessions will feature multiple videos including a welcome video from President Nora Miller, information on student life, academics and financial aid. W students host engaging video quizzes throughout the orientation. The new online orientation is mobile friendly.
“The W’s online orientation platform was built to serve as an equivalent of our traditional in-person sessions. When students go through this orientation, they will receive all the information that they will need to be ready for advising and registration,” said Dr. David Brooking, director of the Student Success Center at The W.
The process to offer an online orientation experience to incoming students started more than a year ago.
Brooking said, “Creating a high-quality online version of our orientation was a priority for us, because we feel that every W student should get that experience of coming to campus in the summer, whether it is done in-person or virtually. No one expected the current situation with COVID-19, but I am confident that our students will be getting the best possible orientation with what we are offering.”
The online orientation allows students to complete the orientation process on their own time and pace. Additionally, students who gain access in May can register for classes early.
Current selectable orientation dates are May 1, May 15 and May 29. Sessions are only available to first-time students who have been accepted to The W. More dates will become available throughout the summer.
