Mississippi University for Women is closely monitoring information regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and we want you to know that we are making preparations in case the virus spreads closer to home. The W has no known cases of the coronavirus on campus and currently has no students who are studying abroad.
Students, faculty and staff traveling for Spring Break should be aware of known locations of the coronavirus. For the coronavirus global and U.S. map, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
The CDC advises taking the following precautions to avoid being exposed to the virus:
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze, for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based (60% alcohol) hand cleaner.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Stay home if you are sick.
Seek medical care right away if you believe that you have been exposed to the coronavirus. Before you go to a doctor's office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and symptoms. The Campus Health Center's number is (662) 329-7289.
