Senior Master Sergeant Melissa D. Bridges, superintendent, 14th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, Columbus Air Force Base, will speak about her perspective on Veterans Day at Mississippi University for Women, Thursday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.

The program, which will be held at Pioneers Plaza (next to Welty Hall) is open to students, faculty, staff and the community. The rain location is Carrier Chapel.

As the superintendent, Bridges provides leadership and effective utilization and management in organizing, equipping and training 61 assigned personnel supporting 3,400 enrollees, 13,500 beneficiaries and 26,000 appointments annually.

SMSgt. Bridges is the principle adviser to the squadron commander on matters concerning authorizations, assignments, personnel, morale and welfare issues. She also serves as the primary communications link between the squadron commander and the enlisted force, ensuring understanding and compliance with policies, applications and directives.

Additionally, she serves as the Group’s 4N functional manager where she is responsible for the medical development of 18 medics. Bridges entered the Air Force in January 2002. She graduated from the medical service technician course at Sheppard AFB, Texas in July 2002.

Throughout her career she has filled a myriad of roles including additional duty first sergeant, functional manager and squadron superintendent.

Her assignments include bases in South Dakota, Georgia, Texas and Ohio. SMSgt Bridges also served overseas in Germany and South Korea and deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and the NATO Resolute Support Mission. She assumed her current position in December 2020.

The program also will feature the MUW Wind Ensemble and the Columbus High School Junior ROTC.
