COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Pedestrian Bridge at the Columbus Riverwalk will host an evening of focus and exercise Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.


“This event is one of my favorite Passport to Wellness events because it really brings people of all fitness levels together from our campus and community. If you have ever wanted to try yoga, but felt maybe a little intimidated about going to a studio, this is a great place to start.

“Maybe you have been practicing yoga for years, then this will be a fun change from your normal setting. Families are welcome. Let’s all get outside and move,” said April Barlow, interim associate director of the Office of Outreach & Innovation.

No shoes and a lot of relaxation will be the goal of Barefoot on the Bridge hosted by Mississippi University for Women’s Passport to Wellness program and Bliss Yoga.

This is the third consecutive year that Passport to Wellness has hosted the event. Last year’s event attracted about 150 participants with a goal of about 150-200 individuals this year.

The first 20 attendees will receive a free yoga mat. In addition, The W’s Project CHEW (Cook Healthy, Eat Well) will serve free smoothies.

Barefoot on the Bridge is open to the public and participants should pre-register at the following link: Onsite registration will also be available.

Passport to Wellness is made possible through a grant from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. It addresses the problem of unhealthy lifestyle choices relating to diet, physical activity and stress management. The program operates within Columbus/Lowndes County to serve the residents of this community.
