COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Health and Kinesiology is celebrating Women’s Health Awareness Week Oct. 14-16 with presentations that empower women to make healthier choices.

“As in past years, we are working with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle to bring speakers who can address topics of interest. We have some excellent topics and excellent speakers lined up,” said Dr. Irene Pintado, associate professor of health education.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Robbie Godwin, M.D, an interventional radiologist with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, will be presenting “Varicose Veins: Signs, Symptoms, and Treatment,” at a luncheon sponsored by The W and Baptist Memorial Hospital. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will take place in Pope Banquet Room on the second floor of the Hogarth Dining Center.

Katymay Malone, an instructor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, will be discussing sexual health. “Let’s Talk about Sex” will take place Thursday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Pohl building, Room 201.

“Vaccines: Q & A,” a panel discussion about vaccination will be held Friday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. in Pohl 201. Members of the panel are Dr. George Pinchuk, professor of biology; Matthew Reeves, health education graduate assistant; and Cole Phillips, public health education student and intern.

Pintado said, “We have lots of health information and expertise at the university, Baptist Hospital and other local agencies and organizations. These annual events are an opportunity to share this information with everyone.”

Light refreshments will be served at both the Thursday and Friday presentations. The luncheon on Wednesday is free, but tickets are limited and must be reserved in advance.
