NEW APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2018 WILL BE POSTED TO THE WEBSITE BY THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER.

ASN LPN/RN Advanced Placement Admission Requirements

New applications are posted to the website by the first week of December yearly.

1. All applicants must have a current unencumbered Mississippi LPN license and must have verification of at least one year's work experience as an LPN in a clinical setting within the last two years prior to admission to the LPN/RN Advanced Placement Option. Documentation from employer(s) on official letterhead must be submitted with application.

2. Prerequisite courses must be completed as follows:

Human Anatomy & Physiology I

Minimum Grade = C

Human Anatomy & Physiology II

Minimum Grade = C

College Algebra

Minimum Grade = C

Human Growth and Development

Minimum Grade = C

English Composition I

Minimum Grade = C

Microbiology with Lab

Minimum Grade = C

Nutrition

Minimum Grade = C

 

3. MUW GPA and overall GPA on all work attempted must be = or > 2.5. Official transcripts from all colleges attended, including MUW, must be mailed to the ASN Program office along with the completed Application for Admission to the LPN/RN Advanced Placement Option.

4. An official document showing ACT score must be submitted with the application. A score on a transcript, or a score sheet (or copy) from ACT will be acceptable.

(a) Applicant must have an ACT composite score of 15 if taken before October 1989, or 18 if taken in or after October 1989.
(b) If space is available, students with less than the required ACT composite score may be considered. They must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours with a 2.5 GPA before being admitted. They must have made at least a grade of "C" on Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II, which are included in the above 12 semester hours.

5. If the applicant has ever been enrolled in a Registered Nurse program, a letter from that nursing school must be submitted stating that the student is eligible for readmission into that nursing program. If a student has failed the same nursing course twice, or failed two different nursing courses, the student is ineligible for admission into the ASN program.

THE ADMISSION APPLICATION ALONG WITH ALLL OTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE IN THE ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE IN NURSING PROGRAM CHAIR'S OFFICE BY 5:00 PM ON MAY 15TH DEADLINE DATE AS NOTED ON THE ADMISSION APPLICATION PACKET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE APPLICANT TO INSURE THAT ALL REQUESTED MATERIALS ARE RECEIVED BY THE ASN PROGRAM.

All official transcripts and ACT documentation must be submitted together in a large brown envelope and mailed to:

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES:

1. After the May 15th deadline, composite admission scores will be computed based on overall GPA and ACT score. Each requirement will count 1/2 of the total composite admission score. Applicants will be notified of their admission status by June 1.
