COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women announced Mark Ellard as vice president for administration and chief financial officer effective Monday, Jan. 7. Ellard brings more than 20 years of experience in administration and higher education.
“We are so glad to have someone with Mark’s level of experience to lead The W in the areas of finance and administration. I welcome his fresh perspective on our current business processes and his expertise in these areas,” said W President Nora Miller.
The appointment of Ellard is pending approval by the state Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning. The board is scheduled to meet Thursday, Jan. 17.
Ellard will be responsible for all areas of finance and administration, Resources Management, Plymouth Bluff and Campus Operations, as well as outsourced enterprises, Human Resources and University Accounting at The W.

For 20 years, he served in leadership roles in the Alabama Community College System, more recently as interim president, as well as CFO. At Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, he oversaw multiple campuses and 5,500 students as interim president. Ellard also served as executive vice president for Bevill State Community College for more than a decade.
Ellard is a certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Alabama Society of Public Accountants and the Alabama Association of College and University Business Officers. He was named 2008 Financial Manager of the Year for the Alabama Community College System Financial Management Association and a 2007 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Citizens’ Academy.
He holds a master of business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a bachelor of science in commerce and business administration from the University of Alabama.
