COLUMBUS, Miss. – A familiar face has joined Mississippi University for Women’s Office of Development & Alumni team.
Timothy L. Hopkins, who served as the university’s senior admissions counselor, was recently announced as The W’s new development officer. A W alumnus, Hopkins obtained his degree in bachelor of arts in psychology with a minor in family studies in 2009. He earned his master of science in counseling and psychology from the University of West Alabama in 2011.
“We are excited that Timothy has joined our team,” said Andrea Nester Stevens, executive director of development and alumni. “The experience and energy he brings from admissions make him a great fit for this position. Timothy understands both the student and alumni perspectives and the importance of securing private funds to advance the mission of this beloved institution.”
In his new role, Hopkins looks forward to connecting and engaging with alumni and friends of the university.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve The W in a different capacity. I have always enjoyed working with the alumni office for Homecoming events and have a passion for serving the students. It is my hope to build relationships with alumni and friends to secure funds and resources that will benefit the university, but most importantly our students.”
The Brooksville native joined The W in 2013 as an admissions counselor. Since 2014, he had served as senior admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions, where he was responsible for the recruitment and enrollment process for prospective students in East Mississippi, consisting of 12 counties.
Additionally, Hopkins traveled extensively throughout the region promoting The W at college fairs, coordinated prospective student receptions and send-off parties and assisted the director of admissions in training newly-hired admissions counselors.
On campus, he serves as a committee member for the MUW Black Alumni Committee and reporter for Staff Council. His extensive service to students includes serving as adviser to the following organizations: Men of Excellence, Young Black Leadership Association, MUW Modeling Squad, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Alpha Omicron Alpha Chapter, Inc., and the MUW Audacity Dance Team.
His professional service includes the Mississippi Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers, Chief of Staff for the Pi Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, including Office of Student Engagement Because of Them, Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning IHL Diversity Award of Excellence Nominee, the Superior Faculty/Staff Award from the Pi Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., National Society of Leadership and Success Excellence in Service Award to Students, State of Mississippi Collegiate Advisor of the Year from Phi Beta Sigma and New Staff Member of the Year Award from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
