SUMMARY:SM-100: Prosthetics & Orthotics - A Career Outlook
DESCRIPTION:Come listen to Ashley Dean\, the President of the MUW Alumni Association who is our speaker for the SM-100 seminar this Wednesday\, February 18th at 12 noon.   Ashley Dean currently serves as the President of the MUW Alumni Association\, where she acts as the primary liaison between the university and its global network of graduates. A proud member of the Mississippi University for Women Class of 2006\, Ashley went on to earn a Certificate in Prosthetics from Northwestern University in 2007 and later completed her MBA at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2024. Professionally\, Ashley is a highly accomplished ABC-certified prosthetist and serves as the Area Clinic Manager for Hanger Clinic in Middle Tennessee. From fitting cranial helmets for infants to providing prosthetic limbs for veterans\, she has dedicated more than 15 years to helping others live life to the fullest. An active leader and community advocate\, Ashley is involved with the Junior League of Nashville and has held leadership roles within the Tennessee Society of Orthotics and Prosthetics. Whether she is advancing strategic initiatives\, mentoring future professionals\, or kayaking with her rescue dog\, Jasper\, Ashley brings passion\, purpose\, and vision to everything she does.

SUMMARY:SM-100: Mitochondrial Function and Fatigue in Sjögren’s Disease
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Hal Scofield\, a physician-scientist associated with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) since 1991\, will visit Mississippi University for Women for the final SM-100 seminar of the semester. The seminar will be held Wednesday\, Nov. 12\, in Parkinson Hall\, Room 117\, from noon to 1 p.m. Scofield will present\, “Mitochondrial Function and Fatigue in Sjögren’s Disease. Scofield has published approximately 375 scientific articles and has had continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health since 1991. He was an NIH Fogarty International Fellow at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1998. From May 2008 through June 2011\, Scofield served as associate dean for clinical and translational research in the College of Medicine at OUHSC. In 2017\, he was appointed associate chief of staff for research at the Oklahoma City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Scofield has taught the History of Medicine Enrichment Course for second-year medical students at OUHSC since 2010. He is also pursuing a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of the History of Medicine. The presentation is free and open to the public as well as to members of the W community.
