The Human Geography minor at The W encourages students to explore the world.   Geography is the study of space and place, and geography courses ask students to observe and question spatial patterns and cultural similarities and differences throughout various regions of the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Requirements:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition to a required introductory course that provides an overview of world regions (GEO 101), this 18-credit minor requires students to take courses in two categories of study:  regional and systematic geography.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GEO 101: World Geography (3 credit hours)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Regional requirement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Select two courses that take an in-depth look at the culture, history, politics, and economics of a particular world region (6 credit hours).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GEO 302 – Geography of North America
GEO 304 – Geography of Latin America
GEO 306 – Geography of the Muslim World
GEO 308 – Geography of China
GEO 320 – Geography of Sub-Saharan Africa<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Systematic requirement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Select one course that focuses on a particular theme and explore its expressions around the world (3 credit hours). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GEO 383 – Political Geography<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Because geography is an inherently interdisciplinary discipline, some electives may be taken from other fields of study, including history, politics, and religion. These electives may be selected from the pre-approved list or an appropriate course may be substituted with the prior approval of the program coordinator (6 credit hours).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
