What do I need to do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Verification is the process the Department of Education uses to verify information on the FAFSA is accurate and complete.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is selected?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are selected for verification for one of the following reasons:<br>1.&nbsp; The Central Processing System found inconsistencies and\/or potential errors in the student\u2019s FAFSA<br>2.&nbsp; Random selection<br>3.&nbsp; School selection<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the IRS Data Retrieval Tool?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is a part of the online FAFSA that allows student \/spouse and\/or parent(s) to transfer tax return data from the Internal Revenue Service into the FAFSA.&nbsp; Use of this tool is the best way to verify income data and allows for faster review during the verification process.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do I do if I am selected?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check requirements in BANNER to confirm the type of verification worksheet to be completed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download the verification worksheet from the FORMS section of the Financial Aid Homepage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete all sections of the verification worksheet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correct your FAFSA \u00a0to use the \u00a0IRS Data Retrieval Tool<strong> (if you have not already used it)\u00a0 OR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request the IRS TAX RETURN transcript (<strong>if unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval tool<\/strong>) *As of 1\/9\/2019, you can now submit a signed copy of the IRS tax return.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit the worksheet and any required documents (as a packet) to the Office of Financial Aid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I obtain a tax return transcript from the IRS?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.irs.gov\">Request online at the IRS website <\/a>(select \u201cOrder a Return or Account Transcript\u201d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request by phone: 1-800-908-9946\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request in person at local IRS Office (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.irs.gov\">\u201cContact Your Local IRS Office\u201d<\/a> )<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens after I submit my information?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you submit documentation, the Office of Financial Aid will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review the documents to be sure they are complete.\u00a0 If the documents are incomplete (missing signature, questions left blank, etc.), you will be notified to resubmit the documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once all the documents are complete, the Office of Financial Aid will review the information and compare it with the information reported on the FAFSA.\u00a0 This can take 5-10 business days depending upon the volume of all student paperwork being submitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the review of information\u00a0 raises additional questions for which clarification is needed, additional documents may be required.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens if there are discrepancies?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If discrepancies are found, the Office of Financial Aid will make corrections to your FAFSA.&nbsp; If the corrections lead to a change in your eligibility, the Office of Financial Aid will revise your award the send an email to your MUW email account informing you that changes have been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can verification affect my award?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal and some state financial aid will only be awarded once the verification process is complete.&nbsp; &nbsp;A prompt response to requests for information will minimize a delay in financial aid being credited to your student account.&nbsp; Verification must be completed by the last day of the enrollment term.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is it?
