{"id":48,"date":"2022-05-09T11:42:25","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T16:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web01.muw.edu\/finaid\/?page_id=48"},"modified":"2026-04-17T15:00:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:00:56","slug":"checklist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/finaid\/more\/checklist\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial Aid Checklist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (also known as FAFSA) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.fafsa.ed.gov\"><strong>Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to start the process.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 The FAFSA is available every January 1st for the upcoming academic year.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The W&#8217;s \u00a0Federal School Code is <strong>002422<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The student and parent must each set up an FSA ID.\u00a0 The FSA ID, which consists of a user-created username and password, replaced the PIN effective May, 2015. \u00a0It allows users to electronically access personal information on Federal Student Aid Web sites as well as electronically sign a FAFSA. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.fafsa.ed.gov\"><strong>The FSA ID can be set up at www.fafsa.ed.gov.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complete any outstanding financial aid requirements &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once the FAFSA is received, you will receive a tracking letter email notification if additional information is needed.\u00a0 All incomplete requirements can be viewed via BANNER. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Receive award letter email notification&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once the FAFSA is received and all awarding requirements are met, you will receive an award letter email notification.\u00a0 Your official award letter can be viewed via BANNER.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accept loans online via Banner<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All students must accept loans online via BANNER if they wish to receive a loan for the academic year. Students may accept full or partial loan amounts on-line. This is a one-time acceptance process that must be completed each academic year. Any further changes in loan amounts will require students to contact the office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complete the Federal PLUS and Graduate PLUS process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/studentloans.gov\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/studentloans.gov\"><strong>This step can be completed at https:\/\/studentloans.gov<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All Federal Direct PLUS Loan borrowers must complete a loan request form if they wish to receive a PLUS loan. The PLUS loan request form tells our office how much loan money you wish to borrow.
