{"id":103,"date":"2023-07-31T13:36:32","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T18:36:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/education\/?page_id=103"},"modified":"2026-10-15T15:15:41","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T20:15:41","slug":"accreditedprograms","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/education\/teacher\/accreditedprograms\/","title":{"rendered":"EPP Accredited Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Current Initial-Level Licensure Programs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The School of Education offers a Bachelor of Science degree providing an initial-level licensure pathway in the following program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/education\/undergraduate\/elementary\">B.S., Elementary Education (K\u20136 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The School of Education also offers the following alternate-route initial-level licensure program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/education\/graduate\/mat\">Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">One program housed in the College of Arts and Sciences offers an initial-level licensure pathway under the direction of the School of Education:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/music\">B.M., Music Education (Vocal and Instrumental Performance; K\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Former College of Arts and Sciences Licensure Programs that No Longer Offer Initial Licensure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The following undergraduate programs, formerly housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, were included in the 2021 CAEP accreditation review. These programs are no longer approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) for program completers to be recommended for Mississippi educator licensure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/llp\/languages\/teachspanish\/\">B.A., Spanish Education (K\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/theatre\">B.A., Theatre Education (K\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/llp\/english\/secondaryeducation\/\">B.A., English Education (7\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/hpg\/majors\/history\/secondaryeducation\/\">B.S., History\/Social Studies Education (7\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/scimath\/mathematics\/mathematicsed\/\">B.S., Mathematics Education (7\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/scimath\/biology\/biologyed\/\">B.S., Biology Education (7\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muw.edu\/scimath\/chemistry\/physicalscience\/\">B.S., Physical Science Education (7\u201312 licensure)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The inclusion of these programs in the 2021 CAEP accreditation review reflects their historical status at the time of that review and does not indicate current MDE approval for educator licensure recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important Notice: CAEP Policy V.1.01 \u2013 Consumer Information<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In compliance with CAEP Policy V.1.01, which requires accredited Educator Preparation Providers (EPPs) to inform current and prospective students whether programs reviewed by CAEP meet applicable licensure or certification requirements, Mississippi University for Women provides the following clarification:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Bachelor of Music in Music Education, with vocal and instrumental performance options, is the only undergraduate program housed in the College of Arts and Sciences that currently provides a direct pathway to initial Mississippi educator licensure, under the direction of the School of Education. The School of Education also offers approved initial-level licensure pathways through its B.S. in Elementary Education and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Students may pursue bachelor&#8217;s degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences disciplines associated with the former teacher education programs listed above. However, completion of those undergraduate degrees does not, by itself, lead to initial Mississippi educator licensure.
