School of Education COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information

For all Education students, undergraduate and graduate: The faculty are making adjustments now to courses and are putting processes in place to help support you through the remainder of the semester completely through remote, online or other alternative instructional means. All processes, including coursework and advising, will be available to you in ways that support you while you and faculty are working virtually. Look for additional notification concerning course adjustments, changes in advising, and other important processes over the following days.

M.Ed. with Gifted Education Concentration

Course of Study

Learn to recognize and address the unique needs of gifted students, as well as how to differentiate curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet the unique needs of gifted students.

The Master of Education with Gifted Education emphasis consists of 33 credit hours.

Core Courses for the Master of Education:

  • ED 600: Action Research
  • ED 614: Leadership through Building a Culture of Professionalism
  • ED 652: Leadership through Curriculum Development & Supervision
  • ED 697: Internship in Masters of Education
  • ED 697: Internship in Masters of Education
  • ED 699: Ethical Leadership Capstone

Emphasis Courses for the Gifted Education Program:

  • ED 516: Understanding Gifted Populations
  • ED 517: Methods, Materials, and Resources for Teaching the Gifted
  • ED 530: Affective & Social Needs of the Gifted
  • ED 549: Instructional Assessment Practices and Procedures
  • ED 595: Program Development & Evaluation


The Gifted program requires six credit hours of internship courses. The internship requirement will be divided into two courses over two semesters. The requirement can be met through your school of employment.
