COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees has authorized Mississippi University for Women to refund or credit certain expenses to students who are no longer on campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At a specially called meeting, held via teleconference Friday morning, the Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to a pro rata refund of room, board and parking fees for the remainder of the semester.

Per IHL guidance: refunds will be less any outstanding balance owed to the university and, if the room or board fee was paid with an institutional scholarship, the student will not be eligible for a refund. Additionally, given classes are proceeding via online and other instructional methods, IHL universities may not refund any tuition or other fees.

To protect the safety and well-being of students, faculty and staff, The W extended its spring break a week and moved all courses to alternate delivery methods which began March 23. Students who were able to return to their permanent residences were encouraged to do so and staff were encouraged to work remotely.

Next week the university will announce how it will disburse the pro rata refunds to eligible students.
