Columbus, Miss.-- To exercise caution, well-being and the prevention of the potential spreading of the Coronavirus, Mississippi University for Women will extend Spring Break through Sunday, March 22, for students. The W will continue to remain open for faculty and staff.

Beginning Monday, March 23 and until further notice, all classes will be taught online and via other alternative instructional methods.

All university-sponsored travel is suspended until further notice. Faculty, staff or students who are returning from a CDC Level 3 area will need to contact the Campus Health Center via phone (not in person) prior to returning to campus. Faculty, staff or students who have traveled from a CDC Level 2 area, an area that is currently under a declared state of emergency, or any area wherein you believe that you have been exposed to the Coronavirus should contact the Campus Health Center via phone (not in person) prior to returning to campus. The Campus Health Center telephone number is (662 )329-7289. You may be asked to self-isolate for 14 days before returning to campus. 

To practice social distancing, as recommended by federal, state and local health officials, all university-sponsored events and gatherings are suspended until further notice.

Students are strongly encouraged to remain at home for the remainder of the semester and participate in their classes remotely. Students enrolled in professional and graduate programs will be notified of any exceptions to meet clinical and other requirements.

Residence halls will continue to be open for students who need to remain on campus. All students currently living in the residence halls will need to complete an Intent Form by Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Please refer to communications from Housing and Residence Life concerning checkout procedures and related information.

All card access to the residence halls will be deactivated Monday, March 23. If students require access into residence halls during after Monday, March 23, contact Housing & Residence Life at (662) 329-7127 between the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

For students continuing to stay in a residence hall, emergency contact numbers are posted in each building. Also, please contact University Police in the event of an emergency at (662) 241-7777.

Campus services, including dining, likely will be limited for the remainder of the semester. The W will provide information regarding the impact to other campus services as soon as possible.

Owls Athletics will postpone games until Monday, March 30. Student athletes will receive direction on anticipate practice and game schedules from their respective coaches.

The Stark Recreation Center will operate on the current modified schedule until March 23. Functional Fitness classes will continue as normal. Recreational fitness classes will not resume.

Homecoming celebration March 26–29, 2020 has been canceled. Next year’s Homecoming is April 15-18, 2021. Guests registered for Homecoming 2020 will receive refunds. The W continues to closely monitor information regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The situation remains fluid and the university will continue to provide students, faculty and staff with the most comprehensive information available. At this time, The W has not been notified of any member of the campus community with coronavirus.

University administration and campus personnel continue to have regular meetings and are diligently making preparations in the event the virus spreads closer to campus. Continuity plans are in place to address situations that may arise. Campus updates will be provided as needed.

In the event a case is confirmed near campus, The W will take the necessary precautions to protect our students, faculty, staff and the campus community.
