Counseling Center Appointments

To schedule an appointment at The W Counseling Center, you may visit The W Counseling Center (corner of 11th Street S and 4th Avenue) or call 662-329-7748.  Appointments are available between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Students may be seen after traditional hours depending on counselor and needs.  Because many students use our services, there may be a waiting period before the first appointment can be scheduled.

In an urgent or crisis situation, an immediate or same-day appointment may be necessary. If you are experiencing an emergency, be sure to alert the counselor about the nature of your situation. If it is an emergency, we ask that you call 911 or MUW Police Department at 662-241-7777.

The First Appointment

For the initial “intake” session, you should plan to arrive 10 minutes early to complete paperwork or you may complete the intake form.

Intake Form

You and your counselor will complete an assessment of you concerns and decide how The W Counseling Center may be of assistance to you.  By the end of the first appointment, the counselor will help you summarize your concerns and explore treatment options for resolving the concerns.  If The W Counseling Center does not provide the level or type of services that you need, we will refer you to another community resource which may better serve your needs.

Some students find that the initial interview itself is all they need to explore and clarify their feelings and options, while others may decide to return for additional services.

Additional Appointments

We recognize that coming to counseling takes courage and waiting can be frustrating when you are doing something important.  Please know that The W Counseling Center is doing its best to accommodate as many students as possible with a minimal wait while maintaining the highest quality of care.

Cancellations & No-Shows

The W Counseling Center offers on an appointment basis. Time is reserved in our schedules whenever a student request services. Canceling or missing appointments leads to an ineffective use of valuable time which could have been afforded to other students in need.  If you must miss a session due to illness or emergency, please contact us to cancel the appointment as far in advance as possible.
