Internships provide wonderful hands-on, real-world training and allow our students to actually do history in a professional setting while learning about possible career fields. While only Public History Concentration majors are required to undertake two internships for a total of 240 hours, all history students benefit from the experience and are encouraged to inquire about internship opportunities.
Our history interns have worked in archives and museums locally, around the South, and even across the nation. Both the HIS 401: History Internship and the HIS 464: Archives Management Internship courses are worth 3 credit hours and require 120 hours of student work. Internships are available during any semester, including the summer, which opens up a world of possible venues for adventurous students.
There are many funding and scholarship opportunities available to MUW history majors interested in an internship, including the Peyton Internship Scholarship and external funding.
