Departmental Scholarships for Languages, Literature, and Philosophy

Deadline, April 15

Through the generosity of our alumni and friends, the department is able to award thousands of dollars in scholarships to current undergraduate and transfer students each year, based primarily on your academic record and need. These scholarships are generally limited to students with a major or minor in the department, though each scholarship has its own selection criteria from the donors, which we honor when making the awards. In order to help us consider everyone who is eligible for the following awards, we have created an online application. Completing the application does not guarantee an award, and students who do not complete an application but who are recommended by the faculty may still be awarded a scholarship; however, completing the application does give you the opportunity to put your name forward for the following awards:

The Frances Anne Smith King Babbit Scholarship
The Louise Eskrigge Crump Scholarship
The Lucile Watkins Ellison Scholarship
The H. T. English Scholarship
The Harriet Rice Harned Scholarship
The Elise H. Moore English Award
The Marie Charlotte Stark Scholarship
The Martha Pope Trotter Scholarship

When you apply, you will be asked for the following information, some of which will be automatically filled in from Banner. You may save your application and continue it later:

  • Contact Information: MUW Student Id, First Name Last Name , Permanent Address, Email Address
  • Academic Information: Term/Year you entered or will enter MUW, expected graduation date, major, second major (if any), minor, completed credits, current MUW GPA, current overall GPA
