COLUMBUS, Miss. – Research by Dr. Thomas Richardson, Eudora Welty Chair in the Humanities and professor of English, is now available through Oxford Scholarly Editions Online (OSEO).

OSEO is listed by Oxford University Press and provides access to 950 scholarly editions of material written between 1485 and 1901, including Shakespeare’s plays and the complete works of Jane Austen.

"Scholarly editions are the enduring focus of humanities research, providing a reliable and trusted resource through which scholars interpret the core texts of their disciplines," according to OSEO’s website.

Additionally, "each title within the collection presents the full text of the work, as established by an authoritative editor, accompanied by the editor's record of important variations, and interpretative and explanatory notes placed alongside the text."

Dr. Richardson's James Hogg's Contributions to Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine, Vol. 1: 1817–1828 and James Hogg's Contributions to Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine, Vol. 2: 1829–1835 have been included in OSEO.

Richardson, who also serves as provost and vice president of academic affairs, has spent most of his career researching early 19th century Scottish literature, particularly John Gibson Lockhart, the son-in-law of Scottish novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott and also a prominent contributor to Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine and London's Quarterly Review.

A widely published scholar, Richardson's work has been recognized with the Robert Bruce Award for Outstanding Service to Scottish Studies, a Glasgow Herald Fellowship and a St. Andrews Society of New York Fellowship. He served as a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow 1984-85.

Richardson holds an undergraduate degree in English from Davidson College and master's and doctoral degrees from Duke University. He has pursued additional studies at Trinity College in Dublin and the University of Edinburgh.
