COLUMBUS, Miss.— Mississippi University for Women enrolled 2,704 students for fall 2020, increasing the number of freshmen and graduate students enrolled at university.

Announced by Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), The W’s fall 2020 enrollment reflects a 3.8% decrease compared to fall 2019. The university experienced a 9% increase of freshmen from fall 2019. Additionally, Graduate Studies increased by 32% compared to fall 2019 equating to the highest enrollment in more than 10 years.

“Considering all the uncertainty this summer over the pandemic, I am pleased with our enrollment for this fall. Most of the decrease was in areas that were expected – dual credit-dual enrolled high school students and in our RN to BSN program. High school students were faced with enough challenges, and the RNs have been on the front lines caring for those affected by the pandemic.” said President Nora Miller.

The university maintains the ability to offer an affordable and personal higher education with a 14 to 1 faculty-student ratio. The W continues to lead the state’s public university system with the highest degree completion at 33.4% degree completion ratio per 100 undergraduate full-time equivalent students, compared to the IHL System’s overall average of 22.4.

For the second year in a row and The W was ranked No. 5 as a best value among public Southern regional universities 18th among best public regional universities in the South according to the U.S. News & World Report.
