DUTIES HANDBOOK
ADMINISTRATOR: VICE
PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT SERVICES
The Vice President for Student Services reports directly to the
President and is responsible for recruitment and retention efforts of
the University.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the senior enrollment and student affairs
officer of the University.
Oversee admissions, financial aid, community
living, student life and campus recreation.
Oversee creation of a comprehensive recreation,
fitness and intramural program.
Manage a division of 31 full time staff with
responsibility for a divisional budget as well as scholarship fund.
Responsible for ensuring a comprehensive
recruitment, enrollment and out of classroom experience for students.
Provide the administrative direction to programs,
policies, and services that inform the recruitment, retention and
campus life experience for students.
Collaborate with University constituencies to
create the vision for a student-centered, service-based division and
develop and implement a comprehensive enrollment and student life
program.
Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet.
Recommend institutional objectives, priorities and
procedures.
Oversee the fiscal and personnel management of the
division.
Plan, direct, and evaluate all in-service training
of the Student Services division.
Supervise the University’s student judicial system
and serve as the University disciplinary officer.
Supervise comprehensive programs of student
activities to include cultural, social, spiritual, intellectual, and
physical programs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

ADMINISTRATOR:
ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT SERVICES
The Assistant Vice President for Student Services reports directly to
the Vice President for Student Services and is responsible for
planning, directing, and implementing University student activities and
programs.
Responsibilities:
Articulate and educate all campus social
organizations regarding issues such as membership selection, event
planning and membership training.
Coordinate Hearin Leadership Program including
supervision of student interns, coordinating student scholarship
requirements, scheduling leadership development activities for campus.
Oversee LDR classes including curriculum
development and securing instructors.
Advise all student organizations on leadership
development and University policy.
Advise Student Government Association Judicial
Board including training of student leaders.
Coordinate and facilitate development of
extracurricular programming.
Coordinate New Student Orientation Program.
Assist other University divisions with special
weekend events.
Serve as a member of an on-call crisis team.
Supervise work-study students on various job
responsibilities such as publication of monthly calendar, events board,
etc.
Serve on various committees such as Academic
Calendar Committee and Staff Council.
Coordinate career services, diversity education and
community service operations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice
President for Student Services.
ADMINISTRATOR:
DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS
The Director of Admissions reports directly to the Vice President for
Student Services and is responsible for planning and implementing a
program recruitment of high school and community junior college
students as well as managing admission of new undergraduate students
and records related to those decisions.
Responsibilities:
Develop marketing and recruitment strategies and
perform an assessment of the demographic market forces on these.
Provide orientation and direction for admissions
counselors within the total frame of the recruitment program.
Work with the Office of Public Affairs to develop
public relation information necessary to enhance the recruitment
program.
Plan and develop recruitment activities that will
promote MUW in a positive manner.
Work with high school and community college
counselors in Mississippi and in other states to promote MUW and the
admissions program.
Mail catalogs/bulletins and other promotional
materials to prospective students and high school counselors and
community college contacts, especially those in the state of
Mississippi and manage direct mail recruitment program.
Organize and maintain prospective student databases.
Manage all applications and complete the enrollment
process for all students.
Recommend and award prospective new students
scholarships.
Provide tours for visitors who come to campus as
prospective students.
Visit high schools and community colleges to talk
with prospective students and encourage them to visit campus.
Recommend recruitment strategies that will enhance
recruitment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice
President for Student Services.
ADMINISTRATOR:
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY LIVING
The Director of Community Living reports directly to the Vice President
for Student Services and is responsible for planning, coordinating and
supervising University housing services, counseling services and
conference services.
Responsibilities:
Manage personnel.
Provide in-service training.
Coordinate areas of Housing, Counseling and
Conference Services.
Supervise and train the Community Living staff.
Make recommendations concerning physical facilities
in the residence halls for the purpose of making these facilities
contribute to the educational experience of students.
Ensure proper upkeep of the buildings is maintained.
Serve as the budget manager for Department of
Community Living.
Develop procedures for assignment of rooms.
Supervise the actual assignment of rooms to
current, transfer, new and freshmen students.
Coordinate all housing services, counseling
services and conference services.
Coordinate all housing arrangements for special
visiting groups, such as W-Day, Scholars’ Day, Homecoming, and other
conferences.
Provide educational and social programming events
in the residence halls.
Provide guidance to students experiencing roommate
or suitemate difficulties.
Submit budget requests and annual reports.
Plan annual goals.
Provide long term planning for residence halls.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice
President for Student Services.
ADMINISTRATOR:
DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID
The Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the Vice President
for Student Services and is responsible for all aspects of student
financial aid.
Responsibilities:
Manage personnel and budget operations.
Coordinate the administration of all Federal, State
and Institutional financial aid programs, including the Federal
Work-Study Program.
Counsel and advise students and parents concerning
financial assistance programs.
Review State and Federal legislative changes to
ensure institutional conformity with provisions.
Prepare all applications and reports for the
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), the Federal
Pell Grant Program, the Federal Perkins Loan Program, the Federal
Stafford Loan Program, the Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate
Students Program (FPLUS) and Federal Work-Study Program.
Coordinate activities of the Financial Aid Center
with other institutional offices and external sources.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice
President for Student Services.
ADMINISTRATOR:
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS RECREATION
The Executive Director of Campus Recreation reports directly to
the Vice President for Student Services and is responsible for all
aspects of recreational sports and wellness programs including
intramural sports, sports clubs, aquatics, fitness, wellness and
special events.
Responsibilities:
Manage daily operation of MUW recreation facilities.
Study and analyze campus recreational needs and
resources.
Provide general supervision of recreation
facilities and equipment.
Plan, schedule and provide supervision for all
sports and wellness programming.
Maintain departmental budgets.
Conduct monthly inventory of fitness equipment and
equipment parts and submit purchase order requests for replacement
parts and equipment.
Coordinate, supervise and provide specific
instructions for all facility set-up and breakdown of functions for
designated areas.
Supervise maintenance and preventative maintenance
of facilities and equipment.
Coordinate programs within the facility and
coordinate programming and facility usage with Health & Kinesiology.
Assist with special events and tasks as required.
Establish and implement documentation method for
fitness equipment daily cleaning, monthly service and repair logs.
Provide for the marketing of all sports recreation
programs.
Coordinate and schedule recreational fitness
activities for facility, such as yoga, aerobics, special group
programming, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice
President for Student Services.
