ADMINISTRATOR:    PRESIDENT

The President of Mississippi University for Women (MUW) reports directly to the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL Board).  The President is responsible for the administration of the University and for keeping its expenditures strictly in harmony with the budgetary authorization of the Board.

The President has overall responsibility for these areas of the institution: assisting the Board with issues that affect the institution and the system of higher education; administrative leadership of the campus; educational leadership; resource development and acquisition; overall strategic and long-range planning, including financial management; and public service.

Responsibilities:

    Shape educational policy and academic standards, recommend such policies to the IHL Board and maintain the policies as approved by that Board.

    Initiate the selection and recommendation for election by the Board of faculty members of the institution and those employees that require Board approval, including filling vacancies that occur as emergencies.

    Maintain appropriate standards of conduct of students and take necessary actions pursuant to such conduct subject to due process procedures.

    Ensure that the vision of institutional purpose is defined and continually renewed and that forums exist for the faculty and staff to continually define the role of the University.  This responsibility requires continuing efforts to gain support for the University’s purpose and mission by the Board of Trustees, elected officials, and the Legislature.

    Enhance the University and resources through fund-raising efforts.

    Build support among and enhance relationships with local, state and national constituencies.

    Make visible to appropriate decision-makers and funding sources the financial, personnel, and facility needs of MUW.

    Make all possible efforts to anticipate state, regional and national trends which might affect the future of MUW.

    Continue to provide a model of professional behavior through service in community structure and forums.  Continue professional activity on statewide, regional and national fronts.  Use the involvement to acquire new ideas and to remain sensitive to environmental trends affecting the University.

    Examine and make visible the values to which the MUW community give allegiance through policies, faculty/staff behavior and program content for the University’s students.  Subject current values to continual examination and consider new or revised values as appropriate.
