Faculty Positions

Biology (two positions) — (1) Human Anatomy and Human Physiology and (2) Animal Physiology:  Mississippi University for Women invites applications at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning August 2008. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline for each area of expertise, along with willingness to teach Introductory Biology and a variety of upper- and lower-year undergraduate biology courses within the faculty member’s area of expertise. Business Management Position (Assistant/Associate/Full):  The College of Business at Mississippi University for Women (MUW) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position (rank open) in Management beginning August 2008.  The position is a nine-month assignment, 12-hour teaching load per semester with summer teaching available.  MUW’s College of Business degree programs are accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).  Scholarly activity, professional involvement, advising, committee work, and service are expected. Online teaching experience is desirable. The preferred areas of specialization include two or more of the following: Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, Operations/Production Management, Human Resource Management, and Business Statistics.  A Ph.D. or DBA in Business Administration from an accredited institution is required.  Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.  The review of applications will begin immediately and the search will remain open until the position is filled. Teaching experience in higher education and K-12 administrative experience preferred. Education – Differentiated Instruction. Assistant Professor of Education - Elementary. Assistant Professor English.  Ph.D. in English required; some teaching experience preferred.  Specialties in Shakespeare, otherwise open.  Responsibilities include nine-month, full time, tenure track, beginning fall 2008.  Will teach 4 courses per semester (12 hours).  Summer teaching is possible.  Individual hired must be able to teach Shakespeare, sophomore literature survey courses, English composition, and other areas in specialty. Student advising and service on department, college, and university committees are required.  Research and scholarship are expected.  Experience in online course development and/or grant writing is desirable. Assistant Professor Exercise Science.  Mississippi University for Women invites applications for, nine-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Health and Kinesiology to begin in January 2008.  Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate exercise science courses which may include Exercise Physiology with lab, Anatomical Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Graded Exercise Testing, and Exercise Programming for Special Populations as well as advising exercising science and pre-physical therapy majors. This position oversees an outstanding human performance laboratory which included metabolic measurement, 12-lead stress testing, and underwater weighing with RV analysis. Summer school teaching is available. Scholarly activity, university and community service is required.  Enthusiasm about developing an outstanding exercise science program is essential.   Working collaboratively with colleagues in the department and college is expected.  The Department of Health and Kinesiology is housed in the College of Education and Human Sciences with an enrollment of approximately 130 students.   This department is located in a brand new facility which opened in April 2007.  The department offers a B.S. degree in Kinesiology with emphases in exercise science and teacher education and a M.S. degree in Health Education.  Qualifications include earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology. Graphic Design: Mississippi University for Women invites applications for Assistant Professor, tenure track, beginning August 2008. Requirements include MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Graphic Design / Visual Communication or closely related field; strong professional accomplishments in the area of graphic design; current and expansive knowledge of the field, including typography, conceptual problem solving, and graphic design theory, research, history and practice.  Successful candidates will support graphic design practice that is socially engaged, that promotes human-centered, collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches, and that engages with diverse audiences across the commercial and creative sectors. Applicants must be able to teach at all levels of a comprehensive undergraduate graphic design program. The graphic design program at MUW includes areas of study in information design, typography, identity systems and branding, publication design, package design, design history, design theory and research, web design. A successful candidate will have the ability to teach in a minimum of four of these areas. The department houses a new Macintosh lab and industry standard software. Candidates must also be proficient in the variety of technologies and software pertinent to graphic design and be able to teach foundation through upper division digital media courses. Nursing (BSN):  Mississippi University for Women invites applications for two positions:  a full-time, nine month and a full time twelve month faculty (instructor/assistant professor) in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. A minimum of a Master's degree in nursing with a doctorate preferred in nursing or a related field, an unencumbered Mississippi RN license (prior restrictions on license must be declared), and a minimum of one year clinical experience in medical/surgical nursing. Physical Education - Pedagogy:  Mississippi University for Women (MUW) invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track, assistant professor position in the Department of Health and Kinesiology to begin in August of 2008.  Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Kinesiology-Teacher Education (KTE) courses which may include Methods of Teaching Elementary Physical Education, Instructional Methods in Physical Education, and Adapted Physical Education.  This position is also responsible for supervising KTE student teachers.  Other responsibilities include oversight of NCATE standards within the department and advising of all KTE majors.   The successful candidate will monitor the KTE curriculum and make recommendations for change based on NCATE standards and best practices.  This position will be expected to support the many K-12 school health and physical education initiatives that have recently occurred in Mississippi. Qualifications include an earned doctorate in Physical Education pedagogy. Program Director/Professor - Speech Language Pathology - Mississippi University for Women, invites applications for a Program Director for undergraduate/graduate academic programs.  The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position at the associate/full professor level. A doctorate in communication sciences or disorders or related field, current CCC-SLP or CCC-A and eligibility for a Mississippi license is required. The person filling the position must have leadership skills to provide guidance and direction to an academic program with a strong clinical component and a faculty of seven.  Other duties include teaching, participating in university activities, clinical supervision, and developing clinical programs.
