Council Actions
College of Arts and Sciences
Dr. Patricia Donat presented a proposal for Dr. Dorothy Kerzel to add a new concentration under Mathematics: Mathematics-Pre-Engineering Option. This option will provide a way for the University to track students who enter MUW with intentions only to complete preliminary coursework for transfer to a university with an engineering program. The Mathematics: Pre-Engineering Option is a two year curriculum for students planning to complete a B.S. degree in Engineering at another institution.
Dr. Dee Larson made the motion to accept this proposal and Dr. Pat Dennis seconded the motion. Discussion followed concerning the requirement of EN 300 for the two year option. EN 300 is a junior level course and students are required to have completed EN 101 and 54 hours prior to taking EN 300. However, students can take this course with consent of the Department Chair of Language, Literature and Philosophy. The motion to approve the Mathematics: Pre-Engineering Option was passed unanimously.
Old Business
Dr. Michael Burger will attend the November meeting to present a proposal to modify the course title of HIS 328 from Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages to Rise of Christianity and the Fall of Rome, 200-1000. In addition, he will present the proposal to delete HIS 470: The Renaissance: Defining the Problem. These proposals were carried over from the December 2005 meeting.
New Business
Drafts of curriculum forms were distributed to the council for review. The forms were modified to reflect the change from divisions to colleges/institutes. Dr. Patricia Donat made the motion to approve the new format; Barbara Hunt seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.
Dr. Dee Larson agreed to serve as Vice Chair of UCC.
