 University Administration Actions

Dr. Limbert approved the Council Actions from the March meeting concerning the following:

 College of Arts and Sciences

1. Create a New Curriculum – Minor in American Studies involves courses from several disciplines within the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Sociology within the College of Education and Human Sciences. The minor evolved from discussions in meetings of the American Studies Teaching Circle and includes study in history, society and culture. It would require no new courses or additional resources.

2. Modify an Existing Curriculum – Modification of the major in History includes requiring HIS 101 and 102 for history majors not obtaining teacher certification in Social Studies.

3. Modify an Existing Course – Renumbering of existing course History of the United States HIS 209 to HIS 109 was proposed to reflect appropriate level and sequence for general education requirement. There is no change in course content or in the History or Social Science programs.

4. Modify an Existing Course – Renumbering Pathophysiology BSB 455 to BSB 255 was proposed to better represent the course content and eliminate confusion among Biology majors for whom this course does not count as an advanced elective.

5. Modify an Existing Course –BSM 452 Immunology – This proposal involves changing the symbol BSM to BSB to accurately reflect course content. The suspension of the Microbiology major (to be deleted in 2011), the BSM course prefix would be incongruent

6. Modify an Existing Curriculum – Modification of the major in Biology involves adding BSM 456 Pathogenic Microbiology to the list of advanced courses from which Biology majors must select four to meet degree requirements.

College of Business

7. Modify an Existing Course – Renumbering BU 305 Government and Non-Profit Accounting to BU 405 was proposed to better reflect the senior status of the course and to provide a course number higher than the prerequisite.

8. Delete an Existing Course – BU 305 Government and Non-Profit Accounting

With the approval of renumbering BU 305 to BU 405 the old number must be deleted.

14. Modify an Existing Course – NU 228 NCLEX-RN Review. This modification will change the 1 credit hour to 2 credit hours and change the course designation from elective to required course.

15. Modify an Existing Curriculum – Deletion of the HKC requirement for the ASN Nursing is proposed due to required FN 325 Nutrition for the health-related course requirement under the new core curriculum.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

16. Modify an Existing Curriculum – Deletion of General Chemistry I with lab (4 hours) and the addition of a Human Pathophysiology (3 hours) course will meet accreditation standards and the new general education curriculum lab based sciences requirement.

This three credit hour course will meet the BSN prerequisite for Human Pathophysiology. It will be open to anyone in the college or by permission to others outside the college.

RN to BSN Advanced Placement Option (APO) Curriculum

18. Modify an Existing Course – NU 467 Leadership/Mgmt in Healthcare

This modification involves increasing the credit hours from 4 to 6 (4 theory and 2 clinical) and reflects more in-depth content to meet accreditation requirements.

19. Create a New Course – NU 459 Theory, Research and Evidence-Based Practice for Professional Nurses I.   The new three hour course will replace NU 425 for the RN/BSN students and expand information on research to evidence-based practice.

20.  Create a New Course – NU 464 Theory, Research and Evidence-Based Practice for Professional Nurses II.  This new three hour course will replace NU 449 for the RN/BSN students and will contain expanded information on research to evidence-based practice for second semester senior level RN/BSN students.
