Approval of General Education Curriculum

February 8, 2009

To all faculty:

The General Education Curriculum proposal has passed with 117 yes votes out of 124 votes cast.

In order to pass, the proposal needed to have yes votes from the majority of eligible voters. 142 faculty were eligible to vote, meaning the proposal needed at least 72 yes votes.

The 117 yes votes the proposal received means the proposal received yes votes from 82% of all eligible voters and from 94% of all actual voters.

The plan is to start implementing the new General Education Curriculum next fall, but the Curriculum does need approval from the IHL before this can happen. If approval is granted, students entering in Fall of 2009 would be under the new Curriculum. Existing students would have the option of staying with the General Education Curriculum they started with or switching to the current calendar with the new Curriculum (but also with any other requirements also present in that calendar.)

Thanks to everyone who voted. Thanks to the Core Review Committee for their hard work in designing the new Curriculum. Especial thanks to Marty Brock for helping to ensure the voting process proceeded smoothly and efficiently.
