Accelerated Classes Information
Accelerated Terms: General Information
Accelerated Term I (Part of Term “A1”) and Accelerated Term II (Part of Term “A2”) along with the full term (Part of Term “1”) are considered parts of one larger term for the purposes of full-time status, billing, and financial aid. Students should see pertinent information on this page as well as the appropriate offices and their websites for details. Students should consult the academic calendar to ensure that they add and drop courses on the designated dates in the appropriate terms. Students should read pertinent information on this page for details about adding and dropping courses along with relevant billing, housing, and financial-aid information. Students who register for classes in Accelerated Term II after the last day to add classes for the full term (January 16) will be charged a $50 fee.
Accelerated Terms: Financial-Aid Information
Financial aid awards are made on the basis of “registered hours,” but those award funds are “paid” on the basis of “hours actually attended.” Typically, this means that the hours scheduled for the semester at the beginning of the semester determine your award amount. However, attendance is monitored at the beginning of the semester, and award amounts are adjusted if instructors indicate that attendance has not begun for the course. Funds for courses that begin in the second half of the semester will be paid in the second half of the semester after attendance is confirmed.
NOTE: Loan eligibility is based on a minimum of six hours, so you must attend six hours at the beginning of the semester to receive loan funds at the beginning of the semester.
If you have a combination of courses—some that start at the beginning of the semester and others that do not start until the second half of the semester—part of your award will be paid at the beginning of the semester based on the number of those hours, but the remainder will be paid after attendance is confirmed for the second half courses.
If you are registered for a course that begins at the beginning of the semester and ends at the mid-point of the semester, your aid will be awarded and disbursed as usual—at the beginning of the semester, as soon as attendance is confirmed.
If you are registering at the beginning of the semester for a course that begins at the mid-point of the semester, your award should reflect those hours, but the disbursement of funds for this course may not be made until you have attended class in that course.
If you are registering just prior to the mid-point of the semester for a course that begins at the mid-point of the semester, we will determine your award amount and disburse funds on the basis of your attendance in your course/courses. Be sure to stop by the financial aid office to confirm your award.
