The Saturday Afternoon Movie Matinee, originally scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday at the Columbus-Lowndes Library, has been changed
to, "Friday Night at the Movies", same location at 7:30 pm.
For ticket information only, call George Courington at 662-328-9370, or call the
Columbus Arts Council at 662-328-ARTS
The reason for the change is given in the following message to Brenda Caradine from Steve Lawson on July 30, 2008:
"Richard Thomas just got offered a role in Ang Lee's new film about Woodstock," explains Steve Lawson, the adaptor/director of A Distant Country Called Youth and Blanche
and Beyond. "It's a wonderful opportunity to work with one of today's leading filmmakers - the man who made Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm, The Wedding Banquet, and
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and received an Oscar for directing Brokeback Mountain."
"As it turns out, Richard's first day of shooting is Friday, September 5th - the very day we were scheduled to perform A Distant Country Called Youth. It looked as though
we'd have to cancel Columbus, but both of us really wanted to honor our commitment. Trouper that he is, Richard will fly down from the film's location in upstate New York
at dawn on the 6th so we can present both pieces back-to-back (for the first time!) on Saturday. I'm grateful to Festival audiences for adjusting to this necessary change
of plans, and know that they join me in applauding Richard's dedication."
Additional Schedule Change
We received notice on August 11th that Mia Phoebus will not be able to attend the Tennessee Williams festival. Consequently, Joe Bonelli will be in the time slot for Mia at
2 p.m. on Sept
4 at the library, and there will be no presentation at the library on Thursday at 8 p.m.
