Other Tennessee Williams Events
There are already three excellent Williams Festivals, one in New Orleans,
one in Clarksdale, Mississippi, one in Columbus, Mississippi. Why another?
The Clarksdale
Festival celebrates the playwright's nourishing Mississippi roots and
looks to his past. The Columbus Tennessee Williams Tribute and Tour shows
off the birthplace of the writer and includes a
sermon based on the playwright's work delivered from his grandfather's
pulpit. The New Orleans Festival
, now in its 20th successful year, is organized as a
literary event that has extended beyond Williams' work. The Provincetown Festival emphasizes
performance -- in all forms. 1940 and now, Provincetown, on the edge of
the water, far from the mainland, offers a clear-eyed relatively unprejudiced
perspective on the playwright's life and work. The Provincetown Festival will
continue to look at Williams with an emphasis on performance.
