Dorothy Shawhan
was scholar in residence at the Southern Women’s Institute in the Fall Semester
2006. She is the author of the novel Lizzie (Longstreet Press, 1995)
and co-author with Dr. Martha Swain of the biography Lucy Somerville
Howorth: New Deal Lawyer, Politician, and Feminist from the South (Southern
Biography Series, Louisiana State University Press, 2006). She is Professor
Emerita at Delta State University, having taught there for twenty-five years,
the last 14 as chair of the Division of Languages & Literature. Shawhan holds
the B.A. degree from MUW, the M.A. from Louisiana State University, and the
M.F.A. from George Mason University.
