The W has a rich history filled with many traditions that create a strong link between current students, alumni, and the University.
Magnolia Chain
A part of graduation since 1890, this ceremony is the oldest tradition at MUW. The sophomore class weaves a chain of magnolias that is carried by the senior class on the morning of graduation.
100th Night
One hundred nights before graduation, seniors are recognized in Carrier Chapel by their student organizations.
Sister Classes
Freshmen & Juniors, Sophomores & Seniors – these are the sister classes that support each other in various ways.
Class Council
An elected group of class officers are charged with promote class unity, spirit, and maintaining campus traditions. They oversee various activities such as Magnolia Chain, Sophomore-Junior Rivalry, Junior-Senior Rivalry, and singing in the cafeteria.
Songfest
Sponsored by Interclub, Songfest is a musical production presented by the 9 four year social clubs. Clubs showcase their creativity and talent.
Octoberfest
Held annually, Octoberfest gives all MUW students the opportunity to come and enjoy a fun night together. Clubs and organizations have booths where you can get your face painted or go on a cake walk to raise money for their organizations. The Columbus community has the opportunity to come out and enjoy an evening of fun at MUW.
Orr Chapel Owl
The night before big tests, W students throw pennies and try to hit the owl. If you can hit the owl, you will be granted wisdom to make an A on your test.
Freshman Serenade
The freshman class gets together to choose a theme and learn class songs. After serenading the upperclassmen across campus, they serenade the University President at her home.
