Summary of Department Programs

IMAGE

IMAGE, as a minority organization at The Mississippi University for Women, promotes a threefold mission:  to increase the academic standing of minorities under-represented in the sciences, math, and engineering; to increase the number of the under-represented minorities matriculating to The Mississippi University for Women; and,  to make IMAGE a catalyst for positive things in and around The Mississippi University for Women community.

Minority Faculty/Staff Meet and Greet

This program is designed for Minority Faculty/Staff members at Mississippi University for Women.  It is held during Welcome Week to welcome all new and returning minority staff members to campus.  The 2007 Minority Faculty/Staff Meet and Greet will be held on August 16th at 5:00 pm in the Cochran Hall Ballroom. 

Minority Day - April 11, 2008

This program aspires to increase minority awareness in applying and attending college.  This program has attracted over 200 students from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.  In addition, students will gain knowledge regarding academic offerings, scholarship opportunities, and social interaction.  Click here to learn more information on how to apply. 

Summer Bridge Institute (Summer Only)

The Summer Bridge Institute is a five week residential program held during the second summer session of summer school.  The 2007 Summer Bridge Institute will start on July 3rd and end on August 4th.  The program assists minority students in "Bridging the Gap" between high school and their freshman year in college.  This in an intensive program consisting of both academic and life skills activities.  Full support is provided for books, housing, meals, and tuition.  Student will receive 4 college credit hours and many other life skills in which they can utilize in their upcoming college careers.  The program is funded by the National Science Foundation.
