By Sam Palmer

The Chorale, shown warming up in Carrier Chapel last week, will sing Mozart's Requiem in Carnegie Hall.

For many musicians, performing in Carnegie Hall is just a dream, but for 17 MUW Chorale members, that dream is about to come true.

“Being from a small town, I never thought I would get the chance to go to New York, let alone sing in Carnegie Hall,” said Jodie Griffin, a sophomore Music Therapy major from Louisville, Miss.

The Chorale members will join seven other choirs from Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky and New Jersey to form a mass choir of more than 200 members. They will be performing Mozart’s Requiem, one of the composer's best-known works, on May 11. “I think just the experience of singing this beautiful work in Carnegie Hall with a symphony orchestra is something that they will never forget,” said Dr. Debra Atkinson, director of the MUW Chorale.

The college designated 19 students as outstanding this year, based on grade point averages and other factors. The Spectator talked with three of them about their academic success and their future.
