Location:  Room 111, Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Instructor:  Eddie Estalote
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper for notes
- This workshop will cover Newton’s first, and part of the second laws.  The session will consist of short lecture/discussion portions which will support longer corresponding labs/activities.  Materials lists will be provided.  The last portion of the workshop will discuss physics in the news, professional opportunities, and literature.

March 21st – Newton’s Three Laws & Optics
For:  9th – 12th grade teachers
Location:  Room 111, Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Instructor:  Eddie Estalote
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper for notes
- The first two-thirds of this workshop will focus on Newton’s Three Laws.  For two hours, it will alternate between lecture and discussion of concepts and formulas, which will establish a foundation for various activities and labs.  The final hour of this session will focus on optics.  Again, a short lecture will give way to activities.  The workshop will wrap up with a discussion of physics in the news, professional opportunities, and literature.

March 28th – A short survey of microbiology with activities
For:  5th – 8th grade teachers
Location:  Plymouth Bluff Center
Time:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Instructor:  Jill Arnold
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper for notes
- This workshop will begin with a short lecture covering the essentials of microbiology.  It will then move into two separate activities involving hypothesis testing of microbes in everyday human environments.  The instructor will review good places to find quality materials for the exercises seen in the workshop.  The session will conclude with microbiology in the media, professions that utilize microbiology, and literature.

April 4th – Waves (Physics)
For:  5th – 8th grade teachers
Location:  Room 111, Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Instructor:  Eddie Estalote
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper
- This workshop will cover various concepts surrounding wave motion.  Lecture, discussion, and activities/labs will be used to support understanding.  The workshop will conclude with waves in the news, professions, and literature.

April 4th – Waves and Greenhouse Effect
For:  9th – 12th grade teachers
Location:  Room 111, Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Instructor:  Eddie Estalote
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper
- This workshop will cover various concepts concerning wave motion and the trapping of heat by greenhouse effect.  Lecture, discussion, and activities will be used to support understanding.  The workshop will conclude with waves & greenhouse effect in the news, professional opportunities, and literature.

April 18th – Microbiology survey & aseptic technique
For:  9th – 12th grade teachers
Location:  Room 226 & 227, Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Instructor:  Jill Arnold
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper
- This workshop will begin with a lecture and discussion covering the basics of microbiology.  The second phase will cover proper procedure and equipment needed for aseptic technique.  Finally, a specific lab/activity will occur involving hypothesis testing of microbe presence on surfaces of everyday human environments.  The instructor will review good places to find quality materials for activities in your own classroom.  This session will conclude with microbiology in the news, professional opportunities, and literature.

April 18th – Newton’s Three Laws (Part II)
For:  5th – 8th grade teachers
Location:  Room 111, Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Instructor:  Eddie Estalote
Dress:  casual
- This workshop will quickly review Newton’s First and parts of the Second (from Part I) and continue more in-depth on the second and third law.  The session will be a mix of lecture, discussion, and activities.  The workshop will conclude with physics in the news, professions, and literature.

May 2nd –   Scientific data gathering, analysis, and manipulation
For:  5th – 8th grade teachers
Location:  Parkinson Hall on MUW’s campus
Time:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Instructor:  Tess Creel
Dress:  casual
Bring:  pen, pencil, paper
- This workshop will utilize various scientific data to illustrate various methods for presenting results.  Concepts covered include:  making charts and graphs, hypothesis testing and interpretation, percentages, dependent and independent variables.  The session will alternate between short lectures, discussions, and activities.  The workshop will conclude with statistics in the news, statistics-related professions, and literature.  This workshop is scientific statistical analysis simplified – don’t be scared.

May 9th – Plant anatomy, photosynthesis, and plant ecology
For:  9th – 12th grade teachers
Location:  Plymouth Bluff Center
Time:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Instructor:  Kenny Langley
Dress:  casual but prepared for outdoor activity (comfortable shoes, bug repellent, hat, sun glasses)

- This workshop will begin with a review of plant anatomy through lecture, pictures, and microscope observation, especially in the context of photosynthesis.  A more in-depth review of photosynthesis will then be discussed.  The second half of the workshop will be geared toward plant ecology with activities for understanding interactions in natural settings and gathering data for analysis.  The final exercise will set up activities and data collection for the afternoon session the same day (afternoon session is not required).  The session will conclude with plants in the news, professions related to botany, and literature.
