Outstanding Majors 2007-2008

 

Stacy Elmore was the outstanding Mathematics major of 2007-2008.

Stacy was a Mathematics Education major.  She did her student teaching at Lee Middle School under Lucy McKellar and at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science under Debbie Fancher.
Stacy participated in the Louisiana/Mississippi Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America as a part of the MUW Mathematics Competition Team in 2008.
  Stacy was active in Kappa Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honorary society.
   
Jahnavi Chatterjee was the outstanding Chemistry major of 2007-2008.
In summer 2007, Jahnavi did a summer research internship in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.  She worked on the Synthesis and Chemistry of Titananthracene.
In spring 2008, Jahnavi presented her summer research to the annual meeting of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences.  She won the award for best undergraduate presentation in the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Division
Jahnavi was a lab assistant for General Chemistry in 2005-2006 and for Organic Chemistry in 2006-2007.
Jahnavi was active in Alpha Epsilon Delta, the premedical honorary society, and in Beta Beta Beta, the biology honorary society.
  In Fall 2008, Jahnavi will be going to Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) to start work towards her Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
   
Bola Bukoye was the outstanding Biology major of 2007-2008.
In summer 2007, Bola did a research internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.  She investigated signaling involving in animal and plant cell growth.
In summer 2006, Bola did a research internship in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Mississippi.  She investigated neural cell adhesion proteins.
Bola was active in Alpha Epsilon Delta, the premedical honorary society, and in Beta Beta Beta, the biology honorary society.
  In Fall 2008, Bola will be attending Harvard University (Boston, MA) to start work towards her Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree in the Harvard School of Public Health.
