| Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms producing damaging winds are possible. Please remain alert to changing weather conditions. |
Due to the threat posed by Hurricane Gustav, which has demonstrated potential to severely impact the entire state according to current predictions by the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center, the campus community is encouraged to take this storm seriously. The hurricane is expected to make landfall late Monday or early Tuesday.
All students, faculty, and staff are strongly encouraged to know their safe zones in the residence halls and campus buildings. Students are encouraged not to travel south toward the coast this weekend. You will be much safer on campus and the coast may be evacuated, creating extreme traffic conditions.
Also, if there are power outages, you may not able to fuel your vehicle or have access to ATMs, so be prepared. At home, you should take steps to develop a family communications and evacuation plan and have key items such as bottled water, canned food, and flashlights readily available.
At this time we are expecting to have classes and normal business operations on Tuesday, following the Labor Day holiday. The MUW Police Department will monitor the weather and notify the campus community at the appropriate time. |
