Police Department

Message from the Chief

The Mississippi University for Women Police Department is comprised of professional commissioned police officers and support staff.  MUWPD officers receive the same level of training as municipal and county law enforcement officers.  Officers are required to complete training at a regional police academy to become certified as a police officers in the state of Mississippi.

MUWPD officers are authorized to carry firearms, enforce laws and make arrests on University property and adjacent roadways.  MUWPD works closely with the Columbus Police Department and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department to enhance the safety and security of members of the university community and the surrounding area.

The MUW Police Department is a full-service agency available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Our department works towards building good relationships with the university community to provide a safer environment.  We sponsor the W-Watch Program, a security escort service and R.A.D (Rape Aggression Defense).  MUWPD may be contacted at 662-241-7777 for information or requests for these and other services.

The department is also responsible for enforcement of parking rules and regulations.  Motorists may contact the Traffic Office at 662-241-7777 for information about permits, traffic rules, or parking arrangements.  Anyone wanting to register a vehicle may do so on-line by using Banner Web and access Traffic Rules and Regulations from our home page.
