Heimmermann to join MUW as provost and VPAA in August

When Night FallsCOLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Dan Heimmermann will join Mississippi University for Women’s administrative team as provost and vice president for academic affairs August 1.

Heimmermann comes to MUW from the University of Texas at Brownsville where he currently serves as dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Prior to his experience in Texas, he was chair of the Department of History and Political Science at the University of North Alabama.

He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and earned his master's degree and doctorate at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Heimmermann said, “I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity presented to me by President Borsig and the faculty and staff of MUW. I have been strongly attracted to MUW’s focus upon the liberal arts as well as its specialized professional programs that respond to regional and national demands for educators and healthcare professionals. Additionally, The W’s clearly articulated student-focus with an emphasis on teaching and learning, but supportive of research and creativity, and its commitment to public service and global education is very appealing to me as well.

“In my visits to Columbus, I was struck by the community’s tremendous support, enthusiasm and genuine affection for The W, its faculty and staff and for the leadership of Dr. Borsig. It is my profound belief that MUW is poised to build upon its illustrious past to forge an even greater future. My family and I are very much looking forward to our move to Columbus later this summer,” he said.

Heimmermann and his wife, Claudia, have a 6-year-old daughter, Lucie.
