COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Mississippi University for Women was the recipient of the Columbus Arts Council's Corporate Sponsor of the Year Award at the 2012 Moonlight and Magnolia's Gala.
MUW was thanked for being a partner for the Young People’s Artist Series and other programs through co-sponsorships which include use of facilities and monetary gifts through the university and MUW Foundation over the past 10 years.
Tina Sweeten, executive director of the Columbus Arts Council, said, “Without the support of MUW, the Columbus Arts Council would not be able to offer our Young Peoples Artist Series at a reasonable price which would eliminate the opportunity for young people in the Golden Triangle to experience quality, theatrical performances. We look forward to continuing this strong, long standing partnership."
MUW President Jim Borsig said, "We are honored to be named Corporate Sponsor of the Year and look forward to a long lasting relationship with the Columbus Arts Council. I also would like to thank the countless number of people at MUW who have been involved with these efforts. This is truly a campus wide award."
The awards were designed by Renee Sheridan and created by Jane Crawford.
Other honorees were Trudy Gildea for Patron of the Year, Angie Basson for Volunteer of the Year and Birney and Beth Imes for Friends of the Arts.
