Teachers of the Gifted Instructional Forum to be held at MUW

Dr. Royal ToyCOLUMBUS, Miss. -- The College of Education and Human Sciences at Mississippi University for Women will host Teachers of the Gifted Instructional Forum (TGIF) again this year on Friday, Feb. 24 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Pope Banquet Room.

Since its establishment in 1994, TGIF has provided Mississippi educators with professional development and is one of three programs in Mississippi where gifted teachers can receive professional development specific to gifted students. Eighty participants are expected to attend the forum this year.

“The forum will consist of workshops throughout the day about giftedness along with fun learning activities and serious investigations of giftedness,” said Dr. Royal Toy, coordinator of gifted studies at MUW.

Workshops include Terminally Gifted: What I have learned from working with gifted students for over 30 years, Diversity in Gifted Education, Merging the Core Curriculum and Gifted Outcomes, Grant Writing 101 and more.

The forum is open to anyone, but registration is required. Mississippi educators are encouraged to attend the forum. Continuing education unit credits (0.6) will be given to educators who are in full attendance and who pay an additional $20. Participants can register for $40 before Thursday, Feb. 16 or onsite for $45. All checks and purchase orders should be made payable to MUW-TGIF.
