MUW Employee Wellness Committee promotes healthier lifestyles
COLUMBUS, Miss. –As a new semester gets under way at Mississippi University for Women, members of the new MUW Employee Wellness Committee will be looking for ways to promote healthier lifestyles among faculty and staff.
The committee was chosen to develop and implement wellness initiatives for MUW employees on an on-going basis, according to Lindsey Shelnut, chair and Campus Recreation representative.
“We hope to establish some regular programs to encourage employees to live healthy. These programs may include emails, lunch and learn sessions and other activities,” she said.
The committee also hopes to increase the resources available to employees by providing a centralized place to promote campus wellness initiatives and programs.
Angela Jones, who is the staff representative, will also serve as the Site Champion. She will be the liaison between the WebMD wellness coordinators and the campus. WebMD is the wellness and health promotion services for the State and School Employees’ Health Insurance Plan’s Motivating Mississippi-Keys to Living Health program.
Other members include Dr. Irene Pintado, health education representative; Dr. Kim Whitehead, faculty representative; Barbara Bryan, nursing representative; and Melanie Freeman and Sharon Foster, ex-officio.
If you have ideas, please contact any of the members with your suggestions.
