Campus Cleanup set for Nov. 15

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Students, faculty, staff and community members can get their hands dirty at Mississippi University for Women’s next Campus Cleanup scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15 from noon to 5 p.m. Volunteers will meet at the Legacy Garden south of McDevitt Hall.

Sponsored by the Office of Community Service and Sodexo Facility Management, volunteers will participate in a variety of projects to assist with ongoing campus beautification efforts. Tasks for the day will range from planting tulips to raking leaves.

Jessica Harpole, MUW coordinator of leadership and service, said, “It is important for our campus and the community to have an appreciation of our beautiful campus. By giving their time and energy, volunteers gain a sense of respect for the campus and all of the work that goes into it on a daily basis.”

MUW started the beautification earlier this fall. More than 60 hours were given by students and staff on Oct. 12. Volunteers planted trees and flowers, pulled weeds, picked up litter and filled holes.

No special skills are needed and anyone interested in participating in the upcoming beautification day should contact Harpole at jharpole@sa.muw.edu by Nov 10.
