MUW hosts Oktoberfest and Haunted House
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Fall festivities at Mississippi University for Women will begin with the annual celebration of Oktoberfest on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and end with a Haunted House on Thursday, Oct. 27.
Sponsored by the Student Programming Board, Oktoberfest is an MUW tradition where students are able to raise money for their campus organizations by hosting a variety of activities including face painting, pie throwing and food. Tickets will be sold for 25 cents each. Oktoberfest begins at 4:30 p.m. on Shattuck Lawn.
Symone Bounds, SPB student director, stated, “Oktoberfest is a great time for the student body, community, faculty and staff to come out and enjoy themselves while having family fun.”
The Masker Washboard Band, United Harmony Gospel Choir and Elite Modeling Squad will perform this year at the festival. There also will be a costume contest for kids, adults and pets. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
The Haunted House will take place from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. in the basement of Callaway residence hall located on College Street. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $1 and all funds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Both events are open to the public.
