Alpha Omicron Alpha Chapter receives honors
COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Alpha Omicron Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. received top recognition and was named Excellent Chapter of the Year at the 96th National Conclave recently held in Atlanta, Ga.
Nicolas Wright, a member of the Alpha Omicron Alpha Chapter, advanced in several phases to compete at the national level in the oratorical and debate contests. He placed second out of all of the chapters competing in the National Oratorical Contest.
Wright’s topic of debate was “Is a college education a necessity in the 21st century?”
"Although I did not take the crown, I still placed second out of numerous competitors, and the experience of true brotherhood was overwhelming" said the junior nursing major from Eupora.
The international president of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. along with many other national officers, presided at the National Conclave.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University on Jan. 9, 1914. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity is considered the "People's Fraternity" because it does not limit brotherhood and service to only one race or demographic background. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded on the principles of brotherhood, scholarship and service.
